Have you ever seen numbers like "1-800-CALL-ATT" or "1-800-4-MACPLAY" and wished that your phone number would translate to something cool like that? Well, wait no longer. This program's main function is to take a 3 digit area code or prefix, 4 letter postfix or 7 digit full number and print out all the possible combinations of letter/words that they make up. Most numbers translate to something at least mildly interesting so you should find something to satisfy you. My friend's phone number translated to UFO-SHOP, a local bulletin board translated to TAX-OWOW and finally another friend's prefix translated to SEX. Imagine being able to tell you friends that you phone number was something like that instead of the usual dull numerical format.
A secondary function provided by this software is the ability to convert in the other direction. If your computer is on and you get a number like "UFO-SHOP" and don't want to look up each number on your phone, input the number into this program and the program will spit out the converted number in numerical format ready to be dialed.
Bug reports:
I doubt that there are any bugs in this software (as it is very simple) but if there are, drop me a line at risgupta@cyberus.ca.
Technical Info:
This program was written in CodeWarrior 9 in C using SIOUX for maximum speed (a program like this doesn't need a 10 channel orchestral soundtrack and 24 bit colour images rendered in Bryce 2 to perform its function). It is barely shy of 400 lines of code. This is a port of a program I wrote about a year ago in Microsoft QuickBasic.
Phoneware:
A term I invented that only applies to this program. This program is free, but if your number translates to something cool, drop me a line at my e-mail address (risgupta@cyberus.ca) and tell me what it translated to. I'd love to hear from you.
